The APCB is a regulatory agency for outdoor air pollution in Hamilton County, TN. Chattanooga was named the "Most Polluted City in America" in 1969. This resulted in the creation of the APCB and its continuous efforts to provide citizens a healthy community in which to live.


We permit industry, renovations/demolitions, gas stations, dry cleaners, and burning.

Burn permits are issued Oct. 1 - April 30 of each year. The charge for a permit is $5 for the county and $50 for the city, including an inspection of the property and materials.

Industrial, gas station, and dry cleaner permits are issued by our Engineering Department.

All demolition/renovation project permits are issued through our Asbestos Department.
