Chicago Fire Dept. Engine 46 Truck 17 Ambulance 9 5.03

Engine 46 was placed in service July 15, 1889 with a horse drawn steamer and accompanying hose wagon.
Truck 17 was placed in service the same day, with a horse drawn ladder.

Truck 17 placed their first motorized apparatus, a 1916 Seagrave J, into service October of 1916.

Engine 46 followed with its first motorized pumper, a 1919 Ahrens Fox IM2, in September of 1919.

Ambulance 9 was placed into service June 16, 1948.

The original firehouse, located at 9321 South Chicago, was built in July 1884 by (and annexed from) the Town of Hyde Park.
Construction of a new firehouse in June 1932 caused Truck 17 to be taken out of service. The members were then assigned to “Combination Engine Company 46.” This “Quadruple Combination” rig functioned as a pumper, had its own water tank, hose, and assortment of ground ladders.

After construction was completed, Truck 17 was returned to service and both companies relocated to their new quarters at 3027 East 93rd Street.

The firehouse underwent a remodeling in 1989 and received a major overhaul in 2003/04.
