Named after famous African American Frederick Douglass, the Douglass Community Association (Douglass) was founded in 1919 to meet the cultural and social needs of African American soldiers returning to a segregated Kalamazoo community after World War I.
Througout its history, Douglass has passionately served countless individuals and families in the Northside and greater Kalamazoo communities as a center of social, recreation, and human services.
